What are the most popular types of building wrap signage?

Building wrap signage has become a common feature of modern building signs, with large-format, brightly coloured PVC buildingĀ  wraps to be found in every city centre.

In this article we’re talking specifically about external building signs – although smaller PVC wraps can work well as commercial building interior signage too.

But exterior building wraps are the real big boys, one of the largest and most eye-catching types of building signs, so let’s take a look at the most popular options.

Types of building signs

Exterior building signs – and building wraps in particular – have a long list of different uses, including:

  • Commercial building signs to add branding, create a professional exterior and promote special offers.
  • Construction site privacy wraps, to prevent passers-by from seeing into the site and to create an aesthetically pleasing perimeter.
  • Corporate building signs to create impact and make premises appear more professional without remodelling.
  • External building signs in a consistent style and scheme that complements interior building signs.
  • Vertical building signs to create eye-catching vertical banners, for columns and either side of main doorways.

It’s a list that goes on and on – so what types of exterior building signs are there to choose from?

Wire frame system

Wire frame building wraps don’t need a scaffold to be constructed, which makes them an economical option – and they can be made to fit any shape or size of building.

If you already have scaffolding in place, for example as part of construction work or a previous building wrap, then your wire frame wrap can be made to suit.

Spirit Flex system

Spirit Flex building wraps use a thin aluminium profile which is fixed to the flat surfaces of your building, which then supports the PVC banner.

Importantly, the banner is not just held with cable ties, but is installed drum-tight using extra-strong plastic extrusion strips for a professional finish.

Solid vs mesh PVC signs

PVC building banners can be printed on to either 550gsm solid PVC or on to a PVC mesh. Often the latter is the preferred option, as it allows air and light to flow through the banner.

This means the banner can cover windows and still allow natural light into the building interior – perfect for large-scale advertising banners on buildings that are still in use.

Air flow also helps to reduce the wind loading of the banner, so that your building wrap is not affected by strong winds.
